Acer Extensa (4420-5239) Laptop

How do I upgrade the wireless card in my Acer Laptop?
I have an Acer Extensa (4420-5239) Laptop. It comes with a Broadcom 802.11g network adapter. (WLAN). It doesn't provide a very good internet connection and I heard a 802.11n would be much better. Is that true? How do I find a compatible card? (Also, how do I install it?) Thank You.

The Broadcom one will be built-in, but if you look on the side of your laptop you will find an expansion slot with a little square button next to it (usually the left hand side on an Acer). There are 2 sizes of this slot (PCMCIA is the proper name for it), older, larger size, or the half size newer type so be careful and find out which you have. Then just buy the wireless card that size and you're sorted - any card of the right size will work magic. You could also just buy a wireless USB 802.11n dongle if you have a USB2 slot, but don't bother if it's just USB1.

Saves power, easier to travel with, needs less space. Laptop are better than dektops in many ways.

There really is only two things you need to decide upon. Do you need portability and do you have limited space? Today's laptops are much better than they were just a few years ago. They rival desktops in many ways, including processing power and speed. Are they up to the task of a good desktop machine? Nope. Lets see... Here's how I see it. Laptop benefits: 1. Portability 2. Less space required (compact) 3. Wireless technology has made it more useful around town. Hot spots!! 4. Your not tied to an electrical outlet, well at least not for a few hours anyway. (A laptop battery usually will last about 4 - 7 hours depending on the battery and what you are doing on the laptop.) Desktop benefits: 1. More powerful (usually) 2. Less money buys more computer. (cheaper) 3. Easily upgraded which makes it last longer. 4. Easier to fix. Separate components let you fix one thing, say replace a monitor. If the monitor dies on your laptop you may as well trash it, it's useless. 5. Bigger displays (although you could plug a laptop into an external display; but then what's the point?) 6. Larger hard drives (more space) 7. Less prone to break. (who drops a desktop?)

It will sound like it is about to go into orbit and then will be quiet for a minute and repeat. There is a temp sensor inside and when the inside hits that is when it goes into orbit. Best results i seemed to have was to sit something underneath it so that the air vents on the left side were not covered up and the hot air could get out. If you put it on your lap, chances are you are stoping the airflow and so you get overheated. Make sure the fan does not rest on your leg.

Acer laptop?
I have an Acer Travelmate 2600 (Government Refurbished) and attempting to wipe the hard drive. i was able to put windows xp but got a windows protection error. I also tried Win 98 and same problem. i replaced the hard drive and have 1 gig of ram. now i am at a stand-still. any suggestions?

You shouldn't have a problem if your replaced the hard drive, unless there is some kind of chip installed by the government that is encripted. I don't know anything about government Refurbished computers.

They are the best made. Bar non. They are durable and well constructed. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. Sorry RWD I forgot it is a more complicated system for SOME people. No one to hold your hand?

Piece of junk with the most terrible support i have ever seen by a computer company steer clear if you do not want to waste your money. Just to give you a taste of thier support i got 2 from a client and while talking to a tech they were dumbfounded when i talked about benchmarking them and that is basic know how for any tech. 40 years and guy above me is actually recomending these omfg he needs to unplug his pc and not give such horrible advice if you look around here will see other people having nothing but problems with thier rigs from them. If u look on here enough you will find plenty of questions like my source regarding acer

i own an acer and it's very reliable.

my mom purchased an acer 10 months ago and has had to send it to Texas (warranty work) to get it repaired twice now......she gave it to me last month and the CD drive went out in it again, I paid someone to replace the drive and it still only works sometimes. She bought an HP this month and loves it.
