I don't recommend this laptop because it freeze sometimes although it's cheap. I would buy Toshiba or hp laptop instead, the price is not very different from the Acer.

I would not recomend this laptop it is cheap, but it freezes often and they don't last long, you should go with a Dell, Hp Toshiba or Sony

Two thumbs down! Hope you don't already have it. I have several Dell's (never had a problem with any of them), an HP (also never a problem with it, and it is OLD), a new 'eee pc' and a custom built (it is haunted). Go with a reputable company . . . but remember any companies computers can be bad, or you can get a good one. Once again--go with the odds, pick a reputable name.

Cheap but pathetic. Go for a HP or Dell, these days they are quite affordable. Dell has great configurations and cheaper than corresponding HP ones.

Acer Laptop a last Christmas

Acer Laptop?
I bought a acer laptop a last christmas. My uncle opened it and I noticed the bottom of the laptop was open. Well he didn't say anything about it but when we got it, it was so slow that it would freeze for hours. We'd have to take the battery out to turn it off. Then the little metal stick that goes into the charger broke off and wouldn't connect. We replaced it and it broke again. Now my battery is charging but won't go past 2%. What do I do.

Acer laptops have a 1 year warranty, bring it to a Best Buy , they are an Acer authorized repair depot, and they will fix it for free as long as you have the recite proving the purchase date.

Acer laptop Apsire 3680

Acer laptop?
I just bought an Acer laptop Apsire 3680 and i'm kind of new to using a laptop so i'm sure how everything works yet. I plugged it in and let the battery charge fully but even when fully charged it only lasts about 1 hr and 30 minutes. Shouldn't it be longer than that?? also even when it is shut down it seems to drain the battery. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks a lot!

No that's about right, make sure when you "shut down" you're going to start > Shutdown and not just closing the lid. When you close the lid it will go into standby which still uses the battery

Hey i just got one 2! and yea 1 1/2 is all i get on mine. They say its suppose to get 2 1/2 but with all the vista features and extra software that come with vista and acer it will drain alot of battery i would try to unistall some of the programs on your computer that you do not need at all, and if you only use your computer for email and istant messaging then i would put it on power saver ow the computer will be slow but i got it to last for 2 hours once

A friend of mine is selling his laptop for $400 dollars and it is without Operating System; however, he said he has the license key for Vista and all I need to do is borrow someone's CD. 14" screen is tiny, but all other specs seem good. price isnt too bad at all, id say get it, try to put windows xp on the system because vista will bog that laptop down baddd.

ok this is a wonderful wonderful price, if you don't want it give me your friends email and i will buy it today, has an excellent processor good ram, it will not play games well at all because the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is a horrible game chip, which should be fine because you dont buy a laptop for games anyway, the fact that he has a key for the OS makes this even more worth it, it would still be a good deal if you had to go out and buy another OS, you can either torrent the cd or borrow one as all you need it to do is install it. you got yourself one hell of a deal. it is very fast has a huge hard drive, a great burner, almost all those things are extra, he probably payed close to double that to buy it new hope this helps

Dont buy an ACER lappie, it is cheap as chips and looks good on specs but if you have ever used an acer you will find out how poor quality they are. They never give you windows CD in order to make sure that you keep their bloatware installed. Their laptops are hardly stable and keep brakin down. BTW their cust service and repair are absolutely shocking

Will the sims 2 work well on my acer vista laptop? I have an acer laptop and I have like 9 GB or something left in memory, I am not sure really. Also does it work good on vista? Will it look right? I am also wondering if it is worth the $20 alone or if I will need the expansions to actually have some fun? How do the expansions work? Should I waite for the sims 3?

how do i change the desktop background of my Aspire One Acer laptop?
i just got a laptop the aspire one by acer and i wanna change the background, but i dont know how. i wasnt able to find the desktop background settings in the control pannel. do i have to download anything to change the wallpaper?

or right click on desktop and click personalize, and then desktop background and choose which folder that has the image you desire

Right click on an empty space on your desktop. Click on properties in the box that opens. Then click on Desktop in the box that opens. You will find background settings on there or you can choose one of your own from your pictures or photos folders. (this is for windows xp)

I have the same problem. There is no option to right click on a picture and set as desktop background. There is no option to right click on the desktop and personalise or choose options. Even in control panel, when I type in desktop background, it says no results.

There should be an FN key and a key symbol (a sun or something like that) that allows you to make it brighter or darker. You use both keys. Hold down the FN key and tap the other key until it is adjusted where you need it.

put in your xp CD and reboot your laptop and press the key it tells you to when it says boot from cd press ___ then just follow the on-screen instructions.

start ur pc> insert the windows cd> it will detect automatically( if doesnt den restart the pc)> act according to instructions> if asks 'wer to install' select the drive u want to format> if asks that install directly or format? select format> if asks 2 methods (1-fast 2-normal) select the normal, der u go. after completing installations, dont just directly start using ur pc, 1st install the drivers for ur pc. CD m8 be in any case came wid ur pc (if ur cpu is containing intel processor then it m8 be in the box of intel). Install all drivers successfully> now u can start using ur pc I also format my pc manually in case of any virus.

Turn of laptop , put in cd , follow instructions VOLA you have now formated your laptop =D

My acer laptop d rom has completly stoped working. It does not pick any Cd at all. What exactly should I do to make it work again. I have tried greasing the gears and even used lens cleaners but to no avail. Someone help me please.

How do I connect my acer laptop to a lg TV using a vga to HDMI?
I have an acer laptop and a lg lcd tv I also have bought a vga to hdmi cable but it wasn't long enough so i used a hdmi male to female but I can't get the image on the tv. (I connected my vga to my laptop and the other side of it (male hdmi) to the other wire ( female hdmi ) and the other side of that (male hdmi to the tv).

Did you try without the extension? If that works it's the extension. If not, right click anywhere on your desktop, select 'properties' and enable the second monitor. You might have to play with the settings a bit to get the best out of it.

You need to set the laptop to output digital over VGA. If it has no settings for that, the VGA to HDMI cable is of no use to you. Rather, you need to get a VGA to HDMI converter box, which will convert the analog only VGA, to the digital HDMI only is.
3 :
Try turning off the laptop and then hooking it up to the TV then power up the laptop. Your computers CMOS may not be able to deal with the sudden change.

i don't think that it is possible to fix that problem without seeing or calling a person. i really think that you should get it checked out because there could be a major malfunction.

had the same problem with my vaio...there was a virus which had corrupted my OS....i had to reinstall it....tat fixed it for me

You might have a problem with your battery. If you are still able to boot to windows, go to start>control panel>performance and maintenance>power options and check your settings which might have caused your problem. attempt running in safe mode to see if issues persist. does the NB get abnormally hot before shutting down or ar you using it unventilated when it does? if if shuts down while is safe mode its a hardware problem possibly the heatsink module, youd be covered by the 1yr factory warranty if within that time period if it doesnt power off while is safe mode you may have virii. restore to factory default by ALT +F10 at the first Acer screen you see at start up to overwrite C: and delete any virii that may have corrupted the OS.

i just got a new acer laptop and when i use internet explorer the acer website always is on all the time when i start it. does anybody know how to remove that feature?

Open your web browser and go to the site you want to use as your homepage. Click "Tools" and then choose "Internet Options" from the menu. In the "Home page" field near the top of the window, click the "Use current" button. Now Internet Explorer will open at the page you chose instead of the Acer site.

That is the home page they set. I just got a Acer and had the same thing. Go to control panel Internet options. Where it says homepage it will have it listed or may have two listed erase anything in the box and add whatever you wish to use in the box. say for instance Yahoo you would put http://www.yahoo.com then click apply and OK you are all set

If its launching as your home page open IE and go to "tools> internet option> genreal tab and replace the http://acer.com address with a home page address of your choice such as http://www.yahoo.com or maybe a good golf site you like :) If it automatically launching when you turn you computer on go to your start button (or windowws pearl in vista) then go to programs (all programs) startup , then delete the acer button in the startup folder. done :)

I have an Acer Laptop, I can not connect to wireless when plugged into the wall?
I have an acer 5050 laptop, I can not connect to the wireless internet when my computer is plugged into the wall. I can connect with just the battery though. It is very frustrating not to be able to connect when plugged in to the wall. It can not even find the wireless networks when plugged in. My husband is a computer tech and he can not figure it out... Can anyone help?

Uninstall all programs that use Wireless - like wireless manager and others crap Uninstall drivers from Device manager Reboot Visit Windows update and update windows. Reboot Download and Install fresh drivers for wireless. Try it Best Luck

How much would this hardware stuff coast for my Acer laptop?
I have an Acer 3620 laptop and i need a new battery, also i need to know how much it would coast to have the cooling fan in it replaced because it doesn't work any more, also it was knocked over before and the port where you plug the charger in got bent or broke where you have to pull it to the side and have something hold it there while it is plugged in for it to get connection to charge it now. How much separately would all of this coast to be fixed and purchased?

fans run up to not over 200 i believe i havent replaced mines yet and a battery runs between 50-150 depending what battery type u need and if the charge port is bent i dunno since you gotta re solder the thing back in place because my cousin tripped over his charger and a new one doesnt help he has to keep holding the plug at a certain place to charge depending on what model you have netbook or laptop i wouldnt replace some things since acer is just for budget i believe and its taiwan company

How do I set up internet on my new Acer laptop?
This has become VERY frustrating!! We do have a Linksys set up already, and we just got a new Acer laptop. And it had no internet. The Wireless connection is "unavailable" and when I do try to choose our network thing, or connection (password protected) and type in that password it loads and suddenly disappears with absolutely no connection! Please help. It will be given as a present in about a day...so please respond quickly. Thanks!

I also have a linksys wireless. I had the same problem this is what I did. 1. If you are using the linksys setup stop! you can use the windows automatic configuration, If you left click on the linksys icon in the right corner of the screen and will ask if you want to use windows configuration click on it. 2. You should than see a little computer screen in the place of the linksys icon. If it has a red X (no connection) click on the icon and go to "view wireless networks" If your connection is there click on it and type in your network key and it should connect, if not unplug the linksys router and plug it back in. You can access your router from the internet to change settings and what not. If you type in your default gateway number (XXX.XXX.X.X) you can get the number from a computer with internet access by clicking on the computer icon in the right bottom corner and going to the support tab. There you can change your connection settings. And if all fails you can call the linkysys support number.

I had the similar problem with my Acer Aspire One. I had to replace NIC card. Try connecting to router with a cable to see if you have the same problem. If that works then its probably the NIC card is bad.

Of course you can do it, and it is really quite simple. Open movie maker, press CTRL - i and this will open the "import files section" so that you can import the photos and songs you want in your video, after importing them just drag and drop them on to the time scale bar (right at the bottom of your program)... and thats it, all you need to do next is set the time you want each picture to last and maybe add some cool transition effects.

U can. In fact all hard disks used in laptops r of the same dimensions.

theoretically you can as the hard drives are standard. You may need to reinstall your operating system though as the drivers installed on your acer laptop are different from toshiba.

Can I use a Dell laptop monitor on an Acer laptop?
I am wanting to make a "Wall mount PC" out of an Acer laptop that I have laying around but the monitor is busted. I have a Dell laptop laying around that has a fried motherboard (Typical of a Dell). I am wondering if the Dell screen will tie in with the Acer motherboard so that i can make a wall mount laptop.

Yes. As long as you have the cord you need to connect it.

If its VGA connect than yes. Really you can connect any type of monitor to any type of computer. I had a brand new Acer monitor connected to an old HP tower. Ot don't matter as long as it has a regular PC connection such as VGA etc.

Probably not. Different laptops have a number of different screens, even in the same manufacturing line. The usual problem with mixing them is the manner with which the mb connects to the screen. The only way to make sure is to take the screens out and see if there are the same. The same LCD manufacturer and the same part number. If they are then you are home free. I would hazard a guess though and say it's unlikely that a screen from a Dell will connect to a mb/base from a Acer. Good Luck though.

I want to return my acer laptop but i have to set it so that it is like I first got it. I do not want any of my files, folders, pictures, music or anything or the sort on the laptop when I return it. Does anyone know how I can reset my acer laptop to when it was still in the box? Thanks!

reformat your hard drive.. re install your OS.

Hopefully you set a system restore point when you first got it. If not then go accessories - system tools - system restore and see if there is a restore point to select. lol Keep in mind that Acer has hidden away a 9.76 gig partition that contains the install media. But leave that alone without calling Acer first for advice.

For the processor, make sure that Windows 7 is compatible with the Celeron processor in your laptop before you attempt any upgrade. Check out Microsoft's website to make sure 7 is compatible with your CPU. You may run into some issues with the audio and video drivers. After you install 7, you might have to go to the manufacturers website for both the video card and the audio card and download the latest drivers for your particular cards. Once you download them, run the installer application for each and you should be good to go after that. is done. How can I actually get my Acer laptop to start up properly?
I have an Acer Aspire 6930 laptop, and I'm unable to get onto my computer. When I turn it on, I get a screen that says 'Windows Error Recovery'. I have launched startup repair, tried F2, F8 and F10, and nothing works. Can't even get it started in safe mode. Is there something I can do?

I have an Acer laptop and if yours is anything like mins it won't have come with a CD. When booting hold Atl and press F10. This will access a hidden partition and reinstall to factory settings.

In simple terms its 'jammed up' -Take the battery out - connect battery charger adaptor to LT - switch on mains power (with the battery still out) - Press the centre start button and hold it down for 10 seconds and release then hold it down for another 15 seconds (its all done on modes hold down so long for this and that). When it starts up - put the battery back in with the mains power still on - you won't get an electric shock or anything because your only pushing the battery back in the slot - don't drop the LT - and your away. What you've done is give the 'inside' and the battery a power jolt - because things are 'sticking inside' (simple terms) they all do it from time to time.

You could opt for reformatting your laptop but there is the risk of losing your files and documents. Better let a technician do the troubleshooting for you. Let him give you other options of fixing your laptop.If your warranty still works, use it to cover the expense.

I have an acer laptop and all of a sudden it wont turn on and all it does is restart constantly. I see the acer screen but it turns right off again. Ive pressed all the buttons and used F2 but still wont let me get in it. Does anyone know what i could do? We checked for problems with a scan and it says there is nothing wrong at all. School starts next week and i need the comp!! Can anyone help me?

Press F8 at start up to enter start options, choose last know good configuration or safe mode with networking. The operating system has corrupt start up files, copy and save any thing of importance for later use. Do a system repair or install using built in recovery by pressing F 10 at start up. i had a similar problem with my desktop. it turned out that the hard drive broke. it made a clicking noise then restarted over and over again. if it's not a hardware problem, then the files that are required to boot a computer are corrupted. use a boot disc if this is the case.

I am sorry but I am positive that it is system corrupt files that is giving you trouble. You said that pressing any keys won't do anything, so there is no way that you can start your computer in safe mode, or do any system recovery. If you are not able to turn on your computer then probably you won't be able to back up your files. So, you need to perform a clean setup, go to your vendor if you can't. And for the next time, do NOT open any unknown websites, there are viruses, mal-ware, and stuffs like that that corrupts your computer and makes it useless, try string Anti-Virus software. This happens a lot. So you should not get exposed with harmful sites, for now, you definitely need to start clean setup.

How to turn off the sensor buttons of my Acer laptop?
I have Acer Aspire 5920G Gemstone laptop and it has these quick media buttons on the right side of the keyboard. They're heat sensor touch buttons so every time my hand accidentally touches them while typing, Windows Media Player opens and interrupts me. The buttons are 5 - play/pause, stop, rewind, forward, record. This is drivin' me crazy so if anyone knows how to disable them or turn them off please tell me!!!

You can perform a System Recovery on many computers. This will return your hard drive to the ORIGINAL factory configuration, with everything it originally had. Have you tried going to the Acer website and looking for the driver? Also, you need to tell people what Operating System you have if you post anything about computers. You should also try windows update. And SINCE I DON'T KNOW WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM YOU HAVE, It's kinda hard to help you. I'm going to ASSUME that you have Windows 7 or Vista. Click start menu-> All programs-> Windows Update. Look for updates. Your computer may have come with a driver disk you can run and manually install the driver.

Probably a couple hundred. I looked into getting a new screen for my laptop when half of the screen went blue, (pixel Problem I think) and it was 250 or so. That's a 14 inch screen, so I assume a 10 inch would be at least 150 or so. Check to see if her warranty is up or not.

So 1st you download I tunes (because it has the easiest transfer assistance). Once you have that installed, you plug in your Ipod via usb chord. That will bring up the itunes screen. You go to the left, under the "device" section and double click the name of your device. Then minimize the screen. Next bring up where ever you store your music in you computer and fix it so that both windows can be seen on your computer at the same time. Next just click, drag, and drop until everything is transfered over. Good luck.

Just get an ipod transfer, like imedia transfer, you can google it and download.

EDIT: sorry i thought you meant hard drive (i guess i was tired last night). again it comes to about 85 dollars plus parts to strait up repair it, but i don't understand the problem. are you just getting disk reading errors? is it not popping up at all when you put in a CD. their could be multiple things wrong with it, as I've heard that ACER has been having software problems with some of their laptops and their cd drives. take it in to your local computer repair store and have them find the exact problem with it. you may not need to pay for a new cd drive at all.

New Acer laptops have a hidden recovery partition that can be activated by holding Alt+F10 as the laptop starts up. Give that a shot.

if you computer has a recovery partition, look for something during boot that looks like 'press ___ to recover' or '... for boot options' however, that restore partition will set the computer to how it was when you first got it, without the programs you installed plus all of the crapware they give you you could try booting into safe mode, and going to a system restore point (press F8 during boot, before the splash screen)

Is there a place where I can download one without paying a huge amount for it? I mean, it's not MY fault that they no longer include one with the purchase.

You can't download it. You can pay Acer to mail them to you. That is all. And if they did not provide a disc at purchase, they provided you with a restore partition. It was your responsibility to make the recovery cds when you first got it home. You either get one or the other... and you ALWAYS get one, or the other. Just not both.

If your hardware eject button isn't working, try opening My Computer, right click on the CD drive, and click Eject. That usually works :) Edit: Also, if the eject button is a different color than the rest of the keys, look for a button labelled "Fn" Try holding that button while pressing eject. It may require it.

on all the computers I have seen there is a button on the disk drive that ejects it...maybe the new ones have something on the top... but that might need to be set up or turned on...kind of like internet short cut keys usually need to be set up or turned on to use.

You need to run your "System Restore". If your computer did not come with a set of Restore disks, then the Restore data is probably on a partition on your hard drive that is usually called "D". You may need to burn this partition to disk before you can use it. If you don't have either the disk set or the partition you will need to purchase an XP installation CD and install it, but you won't have any of your computers drivers, so there may be a few things that won't work.

When you first buy the laptop you can burn a recovery disk. Perhaps it's not too late for you to do so. The instructions should be in the manual. Usually there are two blank disks included when you first open the box. That is what the disks are for. If you haven't had it for very long, then you should be able to burn the disks. Then all you do is reinstall the system with your burnt disk(s) and its back to it's original format.

On an Acer laptop the trick is to hold down the alt key and repeatedly press f10 while booting, which will bring up the utility to reimage your disk to the factory default. You can often also do this with an Acer utility named Erecovery from windows.

How to remove virus from Acer laptop? or what site i can go to get free virus?
ok right now i'm not working and i don't have money to buy the restore disk for ACER 3680 to remove these virus that make my laptop so slow.Can any smart people out there help me out.
