Wierd question. If you just purchased the laptop, the battery needs to be fully recharged before you can use it without the AC power. The battery doesn't have enough power to run the wireless connection to the internet via it's wireless card, hence you need to be on AC to connect.

wow that s crzzy call your (isp)server see if they can fix that if not call your call the laptop Technical Support center i hope its not dell there Technical Support suxs

Odd question... Make sure the battery is fully charged. The computer does require more power to use the wireless, but it shouldn't matter to that degree at all. If after charging the battery it doesn't work, it almost sounds like you have a short in the computer somewhere.

If you have have Vista you have VIDEO IMPORT.. you need to have a Firewire connected to your Firewire INPUT..at the LapTop--Upload(side)..PORT... === Microsoft Movie Maker 6..is what Vista utilizes for Video EDITING-- ...you may need to use PUBLISH---to this COMPUTER..to remove all the PANES that Vista acquires from a CamCorder---then start your EDITING procedure from a SINGLE--PANE..you'll wish you have DUAL CORE at this standing-- === I like to use my AC-DC CUBE--for operating my Camcorder in UPLOADS(editing)..give your Battery a rest... === With the Camcorder TURNED-OFF... Plug-IN the DV(IN)Cable...on the Camcorder SIDE..then attach the FIREWIRE---PORT..to the Camcorder---this is called DV-IN... === Next....Plug the AC/DC Cube into the wall outlet...be sure the CAMERA is in the OFF-mode/ === First START your LapTop--- Get to your DESKTOP--- Let everything LOAD... === Now...Turn the Camcorder Power-Switch...to:...PLAYBACK... === Vista should OPEN a Dialogue BOX...called VIDEO-INPUT... === Follow the WINDOWS[tm}...to Label Your Movie... and CLICK---NEXT....so as to CHOOSE...DV-avi UPLOAD... This is your BEST--Editing---FILE SIZE---also called LARGE FILE... Because you always want to start LARGE---and RENDER---smaller... === Click///Start Video...and you should have complete DIGITAL VIDEO control at the Vista Interface---if your Camcorder is a Digital Camcorder--- === Older camcorder's...NOT Digital..need to be TURNED--ON at the Camera SIDE...Old CamCorders don't operate at the Interface-LEVEL.. === Just let the FILE UPLOAD--- ...once fully UPLOADED.... You can CLOSE...the VIDEO INPUT---program... Shut-OFF the Camcorder--- ...I usually perform a Re-Start--- ...at the NEW DESKTOP---I Pull the Firewire from the Camcorder and replace my Battery and perform a Re-Charge---ready for my next project... === That's it..now you have a FILE in MY VIDEO's... ..the File Type...should be DV-avi...or it may be called VIDEO FILE...50-minutes is about 10-GBs in size... === [end]

Where to get linux mint and how to install it on Acer laptop?
I have an Acer laptop installed with licensed version of windows 7. I just want to try linux mint on that laptop. If I didn't like linux mint after I installed it, can I go back to windows 7? Does anyone have the ideas? Thanks in advance.

1 :
go on ubuntu.com and download the iso of the latest ubuntu. download unetbootin and burnt ubuntu iso onto any usb. now restart your computer and run off the usb not hard drive. you can use the bios to change you boot.
2 :
http://www.linuxmint.com/ download it and burn it, Insert DVD on your laptop, boot from DVD, try it (You are not installing it)
3 :
I'll suggest you to use Ubuntu instead of linux mint. Linux mint is a modified version of ubuntu. First Download the Ubuntu from the following link: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download Then make a USB drive bootable. You can do that from the link above (by following the steps 2 and 3) or you can do that by following the steps of the link below: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/usb Now you can use windows without doing any changes to your existing windows. For that, after that Boot your laptop from the USB. After booting select the "Try Ubuntu" option. So that you can test Ubuntu without installing it in your computer! Sounds amazing right! You can also test ubuntu with Virtual Box too. For more information please go to the following link: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/virtualbox Also you can just insert the usb to your computer while you are using windows, and open the USB, double click the wubi.exe file. This will allow you to install ubuntu just like a normal windows application, which you can uninstall from the control panel. These are the way to test ubuntu without tampering your windows.
4 :
To download it, simply go to: http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php You may also refer to some local software distributors for copy of the latest Mint distro on a CD or DVD; And some of the distributors would download the OS and burn it on a CD/DVD for you for a charge. Acer wouldn't be different from other laptops in terms of compatibility, as linux is compatible with most common hardware - excluding your internal win-modem Most Linux distros allow a kind of evaluation before installation. They would let you see if Linux recognizes your machine's hardware, and decide whether you like the looks and the provided apps. So try this option first before opting for installation. And if you ever consider keeping Linux and Win 7 together on your laptop, Linux Mint kindly allows this to happen, but remember you need to install Mint on a separate drive and that drive will be formated.
5 :
Installing Linux as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi Linux Mint has a similar installer called mint4win (mint4win works the same as Wubi so the instructions outlined above are almost identical) You keep Windows as it is, mint4win only adds an extra option to boot into Linux Mint. mint4win does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. mint4win keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application. Boot in to windows insert the Linux Mint LiveCD and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where the mint4win installer comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Linux Mint (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it. Once Linux Mint is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Linux Mint Linux Mint 10 Download http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=67 Linux Mint 10 User Guide http://linuxmint.com/rel_julia.php You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 10 then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto Linux Mint 10 as with most distros. can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive LUg.
6 :
@MAQ that's like saying use debian since that's what ubuntu is based off of. Linux mint is perfectly fine for the average user. Just google Linux mint and that should take you to their web page.

How do you do a system restore on an Acer laptop?

How do you do a system restore on an Acer laptop?
My husband wants to do a restore on his Acer laptop, but, unlike my eMachines and HP PCs, there is no option for a recovery during start up. He doesn't have the disc. Is there a prompt or command I can give the computer to get it to restore all factory settings?

1 :
go to all programs, accessories then in the system tools folder (or somewhere there abouts depending on configuration) you will find system restore!
2 :
Long winded but here are the factory instructions Option 1. Recommended Restore - this option chooses a date for you. If you know that the system was working good at that time, choose this option. If not, choose option 2. If you choose option 1, the next step will ask you to confirm that you want to do this, just follow the prompts through to the end. The system will restart and should give you a message stating it was, or was not, successfully restored. Option 2. Choose a different restore point. If you choose this option the next screen will have a list of all available restore points. Choose one and then follow the prompts. If this does not resolve the problem you will need to back up any critical data and use the Acer eRecovery to restore the system back to factory specifications. Here are the steps to do this if you need them: Your computer has the capability to reinstall the original factory operating system including all drivers and factory installed software without needing to use cd's, as long as the hidden PQSERVICE partition still exists, and the Master Boot Record has not been damaged. Please read these direction through completely before beginning *Please note, this will erase all data on the C partition of your hard drive. Back up all important information prior to following these steps. Regular data backup is the responsibility of the customer. If you canĂ¢€™t backup your data for any reason, please contact a local computer technician for assistance. Backup fees are not covered under warranty.* Do not allow the system to shut down during this process. Plug in the AC adapter if necessary. There are 2 ways to access the eRecovery feature: First Method: If Windows will not startup Turn the system on As soon as you release the power button, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10. The ALT key is located to the left of the space bar and the F10 key is along the top of the keyboard. Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up. It should show a screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery", when this screen comes up you can release the keys on the keyboard. You will also see a screen showing Windows XP, don't worry, the original operating system that shipped on the computer is what will be installed. There will be 4 options: 1. Restore system to factory default 2. Restore system from user backup 3. Restore system from CD/DVD 4. Exit Choose option 1 (if you would like directions for the other options, please let us know) 1. Restore system to factory default a. Enter the password you created when you first entered eRecovery. b. Read the on-screen warning and choose Yes or No. If you choose no the recovery will stop. c. Click Next. The recovery will start. When recovery is complete the system will startup and you will need to complete the setup of Windows (assigning time zones, user names etc.) When setup is complete Windows will clean up the files needed to perform the recovery. Please be patient as this process can take a while. After installation Windows will startup and it will show the desktop with the icons, you will think that it is complete. It is not, you need to wait. Now is when the installation of all the Acer software begins. It will start and stop several times, so you may think that it is complete when it is not. By interrupting this process, you cause it to not install properly and this message on the screen is the most typical result. I would say if it appears to be completed, wait about 15 more minutes, then restart the computer. Second Method: If Windows will startup Move your mouse over the Empowering technology widget and click on the eRecovery Manager icon or you may also press ALT and F10 on the keyboard to start the program. Please note: The first time you access the eRecovery feature, you are prompted to create a password. If you forget it then you will have to use the recovery discs to reformat the system. In the next window look at the bottom of the window and choose Restore Now choose Restore System to Factory Default Enter the password you assigned the first time you activated the eRecovery feature. If you do not know this password you cannot continue Read the warning and choose Yes or No. If you choose No, the eRecovery will not continue. If you choose Yes, click Next. The restoration will begin. By interrupting

Hi, look at the bottom and try to read the fine prints. Hope this helps Edwin http://sn.im/autogeek
2 :
it should say "s/n" or "serial" on the back of the laptop. And the serial number is made up of Letters and Numbers -- not just numbers. For example, a typical serial number looks like this: AX229834LT243
3 :
The serial number, model number and operating system key code for registering the lap top and Windows is on a sticker on the bottom of the lap top.

I'm not aware of any microphone which requires software, you may want to try the Acer website.

How to reformat acer laptop without any cds?
My acer laptop is windows 7. It has too many unnecessary junk and i want to reformat it. the laptop didn't come with ANY disks though. is there a way? like erecovery or something? and does factory setting mean like how it was? or will it erase everything in the computer and it wont work anymore? please dont just tell me to "manually delete it" there is WAY too many junk and its better to get rid of it all.

1 :
Yes, try erecovery and see what your options are. Factory means back to Out-of-the-Box condition. Everything is erased and the Operating System is reinstalled. All personal files and personal settings are gone. You create a new user and go from there. So if you want to save anything like pictures, documents etc. copy it to USB or CD before doing a factory restore.

3 :
When you start up the notebook, hold down the ALT key, tap the F10 key and you should get recovery options.
