How do i get an Windows xp recovery disk for an Acer Aspiron laptop?
I have an acer laptop with Xp service pack 2 :( and it asks me for the kernel dlls.

You'd probably need to order one from Acer. Usually Acer includes the disk with the computer system. I've bought two Acer systems and they had the disk.

if u could wait couple of months like 2. u could just get windows 7 (assuming ur hardware permits)

It depends on the computer. Newer ones usually have a hidden recovery partition that allows you to make your own recovery discs or restore the computer directly. If you don't have that, you'll have to order one directly from the manufacturer, which will probably cost you about $15-$20.

I have a acer netbook laptop and it has a webcam which I can skype on but thats IT my friend has a computer not a laptop and she does all kind of cool effects that swirls her head puts a wig on her, etc I've downloaded everything it doesn't work and i just wanna take pictures too is there a website you can get on? I just found a nice program that is free: http://www.manycam.com/ UPDATE: I have got it now, and there is many features! It is amazing! You can have wigs, and swirls and mirrors and put text on the screen and lots more! When you first install it, it has it set to have the manycam url in the corner, but just uncheck the box in the text options! It is completely free, and has no advertising.

I have an Acer c-314 travel made. I connected the svideo end of the cable to my laptop and the RCA side to the TV, however the image on the TV is distorted (jumps) and black and white.

How do I turn off the touch screen on my Acer Laptop?
I have an Acer Aspire 5738P touch screen laptop. The screen was recently cracked during transportation, and now the touch screen is freaking out and making it incredibly hard to use. I have perused the Control Panel to great extent, but can't figure out how to just disable the touch screen so it stops wigging out. Any help is appreciated!

Press ctrl+alt+delete. Choose shutdown. or, press and hold the power button. This is a hard shutdown, though, so make sure you save any data first.

You could perhaps press and hold the power button. This is a hard shutdown but is guaranteed to work. Then simply switch your laptop back on again. Note: If your laptop is stressing you out that much, why not buy a new one?

acer laptop how do I get it to connect to the internet without it being plugged in?
I just purchased ab acer laptop and I canot get it to connect to the internet unless I have the power cord plugged into the wall. I have high speed internet and a wireless internet conection in my home. The computer connects fine when I plug the power cord in but when I try to use the battery pack the computer turns on but wont connect to the internet. The battery is fully charged

Wierd question. If you just purchased the laptop, the battery needs to be fully recharged before you can use it without the AC power. The battery doesn't have enough power to run the wireless connection to the internet via it's wireless card, hence you need to be on AC to connect.

Odd question... Make sure the battery is fully charged. The computer does require more power to use the wireless, but it shouldn't matter to that degree at all. If after charging the battery it doesn't work, it almost sounds like you have a short in the computer somewhere.

I have an Acer laptop installed with licensed version of windows 7. I just want to try linux mint on that laptop. If I didn't like linux mint after I installed it, can I go back to windows 7? Does anyone have the ideas? Thanks in advance.

go on ubuntu.com and download the iso of the latest ubuntu. download unetbootin and burnt ubuntu iso onto any usb. now restart your computer and run off the usb not hard drive. you can use the bios to change you boot.

I'll suggest you to use Ubuntu instead of linux mint. Linux mint is a modified version of ubuntu. How do you do a system restore on an Acer laptop?
My husband wants to do a restore on his Acer laptop, but, unlike my eMachines and HP PCs, there is no option for a recovery during start up. He doesn't have the disc. Is there a prompt or command I can give the computer to get it to restore all factory settings?

go to all programs, accessories then in the system tools folder (or somewhere there abouts depending on configuration) you will find system restore!

Long winded but here are the factory instructions Option 1. Recommended Restore - this option chooses a date for you. If you know that the system was working good at that time, choose this option. If not, choose option 2. If you choose option 1, the next step will ask you to confirm that you want to do this, just follow the prompts through to the end. The system will restart and should give you a message stating it was, or was not, successfully restored. Option 2. Choose a different restore point. If you choose this option the next screen will have a list of all available restore points. Choose one and then follow the prompts. If this does not resolve the problem you will need to back up any critical data and use the Acer eRecovery to restore the system back to factory specifications. Here are the steps to do this if you need them: Your computer has the capability to reinstall the original factory operating system including all drivers and factory installed software without needing to use cd's, as long as the hidden PQSERVICE partition still exists, and the Master Boot Record has not been damaged. Please read these direction through completely before beginning *Please note, this will erase all data on the C partition of your hard drive. Back up all important information prior to following these steps. Regular data backup is the responsibility of the customer. If you canâ€™t backup your data for any reason, please contact a local computer technician for assistance. Backup fees are not covered under warranty.* Do not allow the system to shut down during this process. Plug in the AC adapter if necessary. There are 2 ways to access the eRecovery feature: First Method: If Windows will not startup Turn the system on As soon as you release the power button, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10. The ALT key is located to the left of the space bar and the F10 key is along the top of the keyboard. Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up. It should show a screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery", when this screen comes up you can release the keys on the keyboard. You will also see a screen showing Windows XP, don't worry, the original operating system that shipped on the computer is what will be installed. There will be 4 options: 1. Restore system to factory default 2. Restore system from user backup 3. Restore system from CD/DVD 4. Exit Choose option 1 (if you would like directions for the other options, please let us know) 1. Restore system to factory default a. Enter the password you created when you first entered eRecovery. b. Read the on-screen warning and choose Yes or No. If you choose no the recovery will stop. c. Click Next. The recovery will start. When recovery is complete the system will startup and you will need to complete the setup of Windows (assigning time zones, user names etc.) When setup is complete Windows will clean up the files needed to perform the recovery. Please be patient as this process can take a while. After installation Windows will startup and it will show the desktop with the icons, you will think that it is complete. It is not, you need to wait. Now is when the installation of all the Acer software begins. It will start and stop several times, so you may think that it is complete when it is not. By interrupting this process, you cause it to not install properly and this message on the screen is the most typical result. I would say if it appears to be completed, wait about 15 more minutes, then restart the computer. Second Method: If Windows will startup Move your mouse over the Empowering technology widget and click on the eRecovery Manager icon or you may also press ALT and F10 on the keyboard to start the program. Please note: The first time you access the eRecovery feature, you are prompted to create a password. If you forget it then you will have to use the recovery discs to reformat the system. In the next window look at the bottom of the window and choose Restore Now choose Restore System to Factory Default Enter the password you assigned the first time you activated the eRecovery feature. If you do not know this password you cannot continue Read the warning and choose Yes or No. If you choose No, the eRecovery will not continue. If you choose Yes, click Next. The restoration will begin. When recovery is complete the system will startup and you will need to complete the setup of Windows (assigning time zones, user names etc.) When setup is complete Windows will clean up the files needed to perform the recovery. Please be patient as this process can take a while. After installation Windows will startup and it will show the desktop with the icons, you will think that it is complete. it should say "s/n" or "serial" on the back of the laptop. And the serial number is made up of Letters and Numbers -- not just numbers. For example, a typical serial number looks like this: AX229834LT243

My acer laptop is windows 7. It has too many unnecessary junk and i want to reformat it. the laptop didn't come with ANY disks though. is there a way? like erecovery or something? and does factory setting mean like how it was? or will it erase everything in the computer and it wont work anymore? please dont just tell me to "manually delete it" there is WAY too many junk and its better to get rid of it all.

Yes, try erecovery and see what your options are. Factory means back to Out-of-the-Box condition. Everything is erased and the Operating System is reinstalled. All personal files and personal settings are gone. You create a new user and go from there. So if you want to save anything like pictures, documents etc. copy it to USB or CD before doing a factory restore.

well i would go to the computer store and ask them to reset your computer and it would be good for you to go to fire dog in new brunswick becasue they do it for free and believe me i did the same thing

Reset Password No problem... just remove your Motherboard battery and replace it after ten minutes and reset your password.

well, since u cant find your code, take it in, get it reset, mabey best buy can do it, and write down the new code, stck it somewere!

you will need to reload the operating system. if you hold down alt while tapping f10 at the white acer screen it should take you into acer e recovery management,and have the option to restore system to factory default. that will reload the os. if you are unable to get e recovery to work you will need to use recovery disc to reload the operating system. they can usually be purchased from acer for 19.90 plus shipping and handling.

My acer laptop has a serious virus on it, and it needs to be set to factory settings, in order for it to go away, but it doesn't have a CD rom inserter... Everytime I try and press alt f10 like i used to, to reboot, it now freezes on me and it won't let me start the whole laptop over. I am so confused to how i get internet on my Acer laptop. I want to be able to take it around with me and get wifi on it without having to search for it. I want garunteed wireless internet connection where ever i take it in my home, with out any cables plugged into a wall, if possible. What do i have to buy to do this?

in your house you would need a wireless router plugged into a dsl modem or whatever. BUT there is no garentee way to get wireless access everywhere you go. what you can do is buy a usb card from your phone company and then you get service like your cellphone. you can buy the wireless router for like 30-40 bucks (usd) from anywhere like wal-mart or office max. the wireless card (if your laptop dont have it already) that is about 40 bucks (usd) so ya its kinda spendy but its worth it (actually im stealing my nabors internet(its legal but if there is a password then its not))

It's one of the long, thin buttons on the very front of the laptop. It's easy to accidentally turn it on/off with your belt buckle. The screen should flash "Wireless Enabled" in big green letters when you hit it.

It's an Acer Extensa 5230E My brother was sitting in his bunk bed and his laptop was in front of him. The screen part (the back side) hit the rail and now when he turns it on a weird thing comes up like the screen is broken. How expensive is it to fix this? A quick check on eBay shows replacement screens going for anywhere between $77-$150. If you pay a shop to put in the new screen all you would have to pay is labor, seeing as you brought in the replacement part. Most shops I have dealt with charge anywhere between $55-$150/hr for labor. Changing out a screen is a relatively simply job, so I would guesstimate maybe 1 hour tops for the job. In all, you're looking at about a $250 fix if you use a shop. Replacing laptop screens isn't that hard. There are tons of good videos on YouTube that will show you how to do it step by step. If you follow one of those and do the work yourself, replacing the screen will be a cost effective repair.

Your laptop should have either a restore disk or a restore partition. The user's manual will have instructions on how to restore your laptop to factory default but it'll wipe out anything that is on the hard drive. If you don't have the manual you can get it from the manufacturer's web site. Just search their support section with your model number.

Entry into the recovery routine on an acer is at early load time i.e during the acer logo display is to hold down the ALT key while repeatedly depressing the F10 key. If you do not have a hardware problem this should format and load your operating system.

I have an Acer Aspire 5335-2257 laptop and the windows messed up on it so someone reinstalled the windows but used a dell reinstallation cd and at the time I didnt know that they used a dell version. Now my certain things wont work on my laptop such as my webcam and so forth. Any suggestions on what to do?

Do you have the original software backed up somewhere? The best way to fix this is to install the original operating system that you had because that had all of the specific components of your laptop included. Otherwise you will have to go to your device manager (can't tell you how to get there without the OS) and find your webcam and download the drivers to install it again from acer (if they even have them somewhere to download). If you purchased your laptop and had a valid copy of an operating system I would contact acer and try and have them help you get the original operating system back.

Your stuff doesnt work because that OS disc only had DeLL drivers. You need to go to Acer and get the drivers for your model. Install them, ALL of them, and you'll be fine. Then get rid of that thing...Acer are the absolute worst.

I have 3 disks. Disks 1 and 2 of the "Recovery Disks" and 1 disk of the "System Discs". How do I restore my laptop to factory defaults? Alt+F10 on the acer logo at the beginning didn't work. I have restored it before with these disks but I can't remember how.

Go into the system's BIOS by pressing the DEL key (or whatever key the splash screen tells you to press when it boots) Set your DVD drive as the primary boot drive. The user's manual should detail how to do this. Insert the Recovery disk into your computer, save and exit the BIOS, and then wait for the computer to reboot. Press any key when you're prompted to boot from the recovery disk, Acer eRecovery should begin. ~~~~~~~~~ Please note: In the Main section of the BIOS there's also a D2D option which should be set to enabled for the Drive to Drive recovery to work. If it is off, set it to On and then try the ALT+F10 recovery option again. A D2D recovery is faster than recovering from DVD.

I also have an Acer and I tried that, it's a business conference that costs money. If you want to have a video conference with a friend and you have an Instant Messenger (IM) service, Meebo.com is free and great. My friends and I use it all of the time. You can video chat there and if you are on youtube.com you can insert the link and you and your friends can watch the videos together. Good luck =]

You may also not actually have video conference. At the bottom of the sticker it may have a start with "specification vary depending on model" and if you have that start next to video conference, you may not have. However like the person said above, you may have to pay for it.

I have a stupid Acer laptop, and it's been running very slow latley. I removed almost all of the programs that I had downloaded, and it's still being slow. I want to reboot the entire thing and start off brand new. I tried reading the manuel and I don't see anything in it about rebooting the system. How do I do this?

place recovery disk in cd drive >restart follow instructions

if you have a windows cd boot from it. to do this wait till the first boot screen and in the top corner or bottom corner it will have boot menu or boot options with a key next to it. press that key then at the next scree you should have the option to boot from cd. if you dont have the cd you may have a recovery partition on your drive that you can boot from using the same steps use that to reinstall windows

When you first purchased your Acer, it would have asked you to create a restore CD or DVD, using these to reboot your laptop from them will help you re-create your laptop driver as the time when you created the backup. If have not done that, check by pressing F8 or F12 when the laptop is booting to find if the system has a restore built in option. I would however suggest that you run an Anti-Virus Like AVG and an Anti Spyware like Spybot or AntiMalware to help clean your system. Spyware is usually the main reason you get your system to slow down. Hope this helps.

you should check your hard drive, maybe it is starting to fail. If so rebooting won't help. Google for "check hdd smart attributes" to see how healthy your hard drive is. Also when it is running slow open task manager and see, maybe there is one particular program which eats up all CPU/memory. Check you computer for viruses. Yeah, maybe start with it and then do other stuff :) Go to Start -> Run -> cmd, type chkdsk c: /R and let it scan the disk for bad sectors.

Sounds like you need to set up a print server http://www.dlink.com/products/?model=DPR-1260 so you just connect the print server to the router via ethernet cable and connect your printer to one of the usb ports i've got xp so it may be a little diffrent you go into printers and faxes and click on add printer click next and click on a network printer or a printer attached to another computer click for browse for a printer and hopefully it will come up if it doesnt then look it up on google (also if you have more than 1 computer connected to your router u might want to set the printer up on that if their wirless or else just buy a wirless USB adaptor if your other computers arnt wirless because i know nothing about them i know about it but never had experience with one) sorry this is making it like your spending so much money it just the best way

I've had an acer laptop for a couple of years now and the sound has never been an issue. Last week I took it to get it fixed because it had a lot of viruses. When i got it back everything was working fine, except now I can't hear anything. I looked on my volume controls and nothing is on mute. I've even restarted my laptop several times. Im pretty sure they all have CD drive. Do u mean BLU-Ray drives? u know for the blu-ray movies, bcuz i seen a couple out there but they were kinda expensive.

Most laptops including Acer have a CD or DVD combo reader and writer. Very rare that one does not come with one and it is obvious when they don't have one . You have to look. i just bought an ACER laptop few days ago, the 4920 series. i had only 2 brands in my head, Acer and Dell, but after i got some 'advices' and the pros and cons of these 2, i chose Acer. Its also because, Acer has been the No. 1 laptop brand in my country, as well as thru out the Asian region. Just wanna know if any of you are using Acer too, or have had experience with it. I wanna hear your thoughts. the bottomline is, i think no matter what brand u have...it all depends on how you're using it. how good you handle it, how good you're taking care of it :)

acer is good laptop............ but u must sure that u got all the softwares cd with it... in comparision dell give u all such software cds even the cd of vista

I've worked with many Acer's We have them here at work THEY'RE TERRIBLE!!! they break down constantly freezing up, BSOD, drive crashes, terrible terrible comps... IMO!!

Yep I have the 4520 and I can satisfied. I just was not happy with trialware. But that is OK I know how to get all the rest by myself and have done so. The machine is fine and so is VISTA.

My dad has an acer, and he says it reallly sux... He was going to get a MacBook, but he got a really good deal on one of the more advanced ones, and he says everything about it (except the webcam built in) sux.... sorry to let u down, but get a MacBook... No pcs no PCs

Acer is a very good laptop & i love its battery life... till now it has the longest battery time ... u r in good track...keep it up mate ..!!

Acer Laptop?

acer laptop?
if anyone has an acer laptop (with camera) i need some help! 1st of all i cant activate the camera! The camera is like tuned off and i cant figure out how to turn it on. Also i think somewhere in the acer arcade (if u know what i am talking about) i think u can do some kareoke mode thing where u can sing to a song and it will just play the backround music for u. But i need help figuring out how to do this!

there is an icon called acer orbicam.click on that on ur desktop.if u don't hav the icon, go to start n click on help and support n type in orbicam.good luck.

I'm guessing you don't have the users manual that came with it.

My Acer laptop

Acer laptop?
My Acer laptop is out of warranty. Some repair work is required now. Should I go to an authorised Acer service centre or will my local vendor be good enough? I believe Acer charges a lot.

acer might be more expensive than going to a local shop to fix it. but if you can, ask for quotes before you decide on either.

Your local vendor will be fine. You dont really have to go to Acer because they will charge to much money.

Depending on the damage, it may cost a significant amount to repair the laptop. You may consider buying a new laptop if its cheaper than repairs.

try going to geeksqad if they cant repair it then visit your local computer store.

If you are satisfy with your laptop and you need that he continuing to work perfect go at Acer - price could be high but you'll get perfect laptop again. If you not use him often go at local vendor but note! you can wait to repairment a long time because local vendors are not supplied with all spare parts for laptops. Veradisca & Best Regards, Neven.

It depends on what's wrong with your laptop. If it's physical, buy a replacement part on eBay (or other cheeap part dealers) and have a handy person install it for you. If it's software, recover your system using eRecovery. Shipping it to Acer could take a lot of time and money, and they may not fix the problem. So, local vendors are the way to go. But many stores just rip you off for diagnosing what the problem is and don't refund your money if the problem isn't fixed. Good Luck!

Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop

Acer Laptop?
I have an Acer Aspire 3680 Laptop. I just recently deleted all partitions and installed windows XP. The device manager is showing the driver for "Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus" and "Network Connector" is not installed properly. I downloaded every driver that Acer has to offer, and neither one of them seems to fix this device. Any suggestions? Thanks I must use windows XP, since just starting up vista takes awhile. If I request a restor CD from Acer, I will have Vista again, since that is the original OS.

Request the restore CD from Acer.
